Other returning characters include Ripper Roo and N. In addition to Crash's usual run-and-jump moves, he now has the ability to slide, super jump, and climb. Followers of Sony's furry frontman probably already know--or could have guessed--that Crash Bandicoot will return to the PlayStation in plenty of time for this holiday season. The sequel picks up where the original game left off as a defeated Dr. Cortex takes refuge in an underground cavern. New perks this time include a wild ride astride a polar bear and a jet pack level that requires you to move in all six directions.
The beta version looked and played solid, particularly the improved animation and support for the analog controller. Fans of the crazy coot won't want to miss this one. Even as Crash Bandicoot: Warped, the third game in the Crash series, hits the market, the Bandicoot is striking back retroactively thanks to the release of his second game as a PlayStation Classic.
For less than the price you'd pay for a pair of the coot's sneakers, you can now enjoy spinning your way past aggres sive turtles and mean-spirited seals while you amass crystals in order to save world from a truly unpleasant fate. Like some deranged Adam mad for apples, you can re-experience the great graphics, concise control, and upbeat gameplay of this instant golden oldie.
If you liked the original but didn't play the sequel, this is your opportunity to make up for lost time and to get into the groove for Crash's third installment. The Band-icoot is playing on. As you might expect, Crash 2 is incredible. The list of positives outweighs the negatives by leaps and bounds.
First you have the graphics. They're easily in the top 10 best on the PlayStation. They're super sharp, colorful and have no awkward break-up. The animation is flawless in both the game and the cinemas. The cinemas are probably some of the best in-game cut scenes I've seen by in-game cut scenes I mean cinemas that use regular game graphics and not FMV. Not only do they look good, they sound good. Needless to say, the voice booms The graphic effects Naughty Dog put together are awesome.
The reflections, lighting effects and realtime bump that forms on the ground texture when Crash burrows underground are awesome. I like the Warp Room concept that they implemented--much more fun than going from level to level on an island.
The challenge level has been turned up on Crash 2, but in no way does it get annoying. It's like an old-school action game-you us want to keep coming back to it even though It's hard. Bad points? I thought the control could have been a bit tighter. The analog pad makes it easier though. Crash's I victory dance got old after a while. I'm always hearing around the office, didn't like the first one but Crash 2 is awesome!
To me. Crash 2 is fundamentally the same as the original. Not to say that that's bad, however; I liked the first one a lot. A few cool extras are in the sequel, namely vehicles, new Bosses, great FMV and better level design although some sections are repetitive. Crash 2 is a great piece of work, but it's not exactly a brand-new playing experience.
Crash Bandicoot 2 is a huge improvement over the first Crash game. Some of the new animations are hilarious, the game is less linear than its predecessor, and the graphics are just spectacular the best I've ever seen on the PlayStation, period. My complaints are few: The play control isn't as good as it should be with the standard PS pad, a few of the animations are repetitive and the game Is too similar to Crash 1. Otherwise, it's great. Crash Bandicoot 2 is a great sequel, because it is a much better game than the original.
There are a lot of new gameplay elements, and the diverse level design is excellent. I also enjoyed the quirky Bosses between each set of levels. This 3-D platform game really shows off the PlayStation hardware great graphics!
If you like platform games, you would remiss not to buy this excellent one. You face tough jumps, pincer-clawed crabs, rolling gates, skunks, snapping plants, and boulders hot on your tail a la Indiana Jones. Crash tackles these obstacles with a jump, a Taz-like spin move, and a repertoire of humorous expressions and animations.
Tropical graphics make for a colorful eyeful. It started as just another cute action game. Little did anybody know that once the expert producers at Universal Interactive Studios started to tweak the raw program that another ho-hum mascot-type game would turn out to be perhaps the hottest new product of the year.
All that extra effort didn't go unnoticed by Sony. After seeing the preliminary info on the game, they immediately fell in love with both the character and the game. So much, in fact, that Sony states that they have decided to make Crash their official mascot. But what about the game? Is it really that good? Our editors got a sample of it at ECTS in London and their overall impression was extremely favorable.
It takes place on a three-island chain off the southeast coast of Australia, where a mad scientist Dr. Neo Cortex with the help of Dr. Brio decided to brainwash the animals on the island to be in their army which will take over the world. As expected it doesn't go right and the animals go mad. One animal is Crash who gets thrown off the island and ends up two islands away. He must find his way back and save his girlfriend Tawna, who is next in line for the experiment. There will be over 30 levels of gameplay with solid control in all three directions.
Crash has a Spin Attack which he will use to get rid of the enemies he encounters. If he gathers enough Yin-Yang-Yuk medals, he gets to go to the bonus room. Also, the various bonus fruits will give him special powers Finally, if he joins forces with. Aku Aku--the wise village witch doctor--Crash will be able to get helpful advice and a magical orb which will protect him from one hit.
Sony is still being quite secretive about the game, so stay tuned until next month when there's more info. Since our exclusive April preview, the most significant development with Crash Bandicoot is that Sony bought the rights to this title from Universal Interactive, which all but guarantees Crash's impending job as the PlayStation mascot. And like other mascots, Crash is on a quest to save his girlfriend Tawna from an evil doctor Dr.
Neo Cortex as he travels through three islands, using jumping and spin attacks to fend off enemies. But Crash's most impressive features are hard to grasp from static pictures in a magazine: This game has smooth cameras that automatically switch views on the fly, slapstick cartoon-quality sound effects, and superb animation.
May you be struck by lightning if you think for an instant that Crash Bandicoot is some sort of mascot. He's not, he's an Australian rodent with a penchant for fine wines and good furniture. He's also the star of the latest and, indeed, first offering from a brand new alliance between Sony and Universal Interactive, the company who brought you the rather unfortunate 3DO Jurassic Park.
It seems however, that Universal has come a long way since those dinosaur days on 3DO. The Graphics in this game are, well, stupendous. So good, in fact, that Sony has opened the corporate umbrella and taken Crash on board. The PlayStation badly needs a decent 3D platform game. Jumping Flash is awesome, but it's getting on a bit now. Sega is hard at work with "Nights" and Nintendo is all set to unveil the bit incarnation of Mario.
Crash borrows heavily from every other platform game you've ever seen, but its unique 3D perspective lends it a charm you don't often see. The gameplay is predictable run-and-jump stuff, but with enough hidden goodies and features to keep you fascinated and addicted. Crash is gorgeous and it's going to be huge. It gives a well-rounded motion range than compared to using the arrow buttons meant for up, down, left and right motions.
I can say that while playing the game it is easy to appreciate the care that has gone into presenting the game, however, playing it stirs conflicting emotions. Sane remains dated despite their fresh approach to the game. I think this can be attributed to the time it has taken for Vicarious Visions to release the trilogy. By the time the third Crash was out, we were still popular to the 3-D idea then given time, 3D is no longer popular.
You also find yourself facing many obstacles and one-hit deaths that can come out discouraging as it makes the game difficult. All you want to do is sit back and enjoy the game.
