If you want to see how much of this space is being taken up, run a command prompt as administrator and type: vssadmin list shadowstorage Mine is using the following amount on a 1TB partition: Used Shadow Copy Storage space: Also, you can always run Disk Cleanup to clean up old temporary files, old system dumps, etc.

Now if you want to resize, have a spare drive and want to get tricky.. DrDoU 2[H]4U. Joined Jun 4, Messages 2, I may be dead wrong but doesn't vista have the ability to resize partitions? MrF Gawd. I'm sure if i fucked with it long enough i could have got it done, but Acronis took care of it in 5 minutes. You must log in or register to reply here. Is it advisable to partition an existing active bootable partition? I know many thrid part softwares allow it, but u stand a high chance of loosing some part of the available data.

Make sure to create backups of the existing data, so that u may not get offhanded later. I suggest you delete the Dell Diagnostics partition, because the diagnostics tool is also on the Dell Driver CD, if you are ever gonna use the tool. So you have to delete a partition that you have, and the Dell diagnostics partition, It probably says Heathy EISA Configuration in the disk management is not needed, and is also on the dell driver CD if needed some day. A primary partition acts just like a seperat hardrive.

So if you would want to install a dual boot, you could install another OS on a logical drive, but then the booting would happen on your C-drive. So therefore after deleting Dell Diagnostics Partition , It says Heathy EISA Configuration , then create an extended partition, so you perhaps later can create more than one logical drive. Because you can after deleting DDP create a primary partition, but then no more.

I understand what you meant. But I ended up formating and reinstalling Vista. Thanks anyways. My understanding is that partitioning a HD with Vista on it is not a good thing. It messes with the "prefetch" in Vista.
